Andy Hunt

Coming from the Isle of Palms, SC, ( near Charleston) I have been surrounded by natural beauty my whole adult life.
And nature and the material world have always inspired me.
I am a videographer and editor by profession. I’ve always considered my video work “artistic” and love the shooting  process and the amazing things you can do with the video in post production. I’m also a photographer and never go anywhere without my camera- a lot of my paintings are from photos I took.
I’ve loved to draw my whole life but only in the last five years or so did I take up painting. I started with just pure abstracts but before long moved to more realistic pieces. I think all of my work combines realism with abstraction. Occasionally I’ll dig into architectural drawings because I love the precision. I also enjoy whimsical, fun subjects like my robots and musical instruments. When I paint I just become immersed in the process and everything else just fades away while I work. It is truly a labor of love. I’m constantly trying to learn more and I know that painting has become a lifetime devotion.

I’m from Charleston, SC and lived by the ocean for over 30 years. I’m here in Birmingham because my wife was hired by UAB as an assistant professor of voice. I also play piano and guitar and she and I are working on a start up band. Most of what I do in life is grounded in the arts; from videography to photography to editing, from drawing and painting to playing music and writing songs. I am a highly visual person and love to see the way light and shadows and color work together in nature and in everyday things.
Light, in my opinion, is the single most important aspect of any drawing or painting or photograph and in just the way it highlights the world around us. I am on a life-long quest to become a better artist in everything I do.
